We’re happy to announce the availability of the newest release of our Ubuntu VPS. Ubuntu released the official availability of Gutsy Gibbon just a few short days ago. We have three versions of Ubuntu for you to pick from: default server image, Ruby on Rails, or LAMP. Our Ruby and LAMP stacks include everything you need to start serving your dynamic websites right out of the box! Ubuntu is now available on both OpenVZ and XEN.

1Greetings,
I’m a member of the OpenVZ community. I volunteered at the OpenVZ booth at the most recent SF LinuxWorld Expo. I have some blog entries on blog.openvz.org and I’ve created screencasts on my website, http://www.montanalinux.org. Anyway, I’m not a VPS hosting service competitor.
I’m trying to get an updated Ubuntu OS Template as the only one available for download from openvz.org is 606. I installed that and tried to update to 610, then 704, and then 710. While it kinda worked, the init process on the final result seemed to always stick… although networking worked and I could manually start everything in /etc/rc2.d.
Anyway, I’d like to know if you’d consider offering your minimal OpenVZ OS Templates to the community? Information about how you go about creating these templates would also be helpful… unless you are just following the stock info on the OpenVZ wiki. I don’t have a Unbuntu host machine or I’d try the wiki recipe myself.
Thanks in advance,
–

2Scott,
A few tricks that you need to watch out for in the upgrades can be found at:
http://wiki.vpslink.com/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Fix_Missing_ubuntu-minimal_dependencies_for_Ubuntu_6.10_(Edgy_Eft)
We generally start with a fresh debootstrap, rather than updating the templates…
We’re working on some community stuff over the next few months, but I can’t release to much info on it quite yet! Thanks for your comment and info….

3So, does that mean the answer is no… you don’t want to give out a copy of your Ubuntu 710 OS Template?
I think that URL got munged or you were planning on posting some info to it but got interrupted… because the page has no text (when I wrote this).
Thanks in advance for any consideration.

4Ok, the whole URL was there, it just wasn’t linked perfectly. Found the page. Thanks.
